WikiAnswers - The Rebel Wikipedia?

My students, Nick and David, were using a site called WikiAnswers that I had never seen before. It's kind of like Wikipedia, but less formal. People can ask questions and get answers. Sometimes the answers are contradictory, so be careful using them. They have not been vetted like on Wikipedia.

But I like the viral-ness of this site. It feels more like a conversation. Some questions don't have absolute answers. It depends. Like, "Which is the best cellphone to buy."

Have you ever used this site? Where did you hear about it? Are the answers usually right????

In a way I have used this site. I have personally never asked a question, but I have found other people asked the same question as I had. I found it when searching questions online. One time I used it was when my dad was working on the car, we couldn't find the spark plugs. So I looked and found that someone else was looking for the spark plugs on the same model car. It was very useful. Majority of the time, you can find the correct answer on this site.

I think I've used this site a couple times. But I prefer Yahoo Answers. I Yahoo Answers was created before WikiAnswers and it's just what I've always used. But the answers are correct most of the time.

this site is very interesting, iv used it on countless homeworks. i do feel like its the rebel of wikipedia, its much easier to user then wikipedia. All thought its easy , it provides less information that wikipedia. Over all, i find this site much more usefull then wikipedia.

@ peter15i
I've gotten quite a few wrong answers there, so I don't trust it.

I agree with nick. i have also used this site on many of my history homework last year and it was useful. i believe that it is easier to use than wikipedia but you sometimes have to re-word your question or else you could wind up with a totally different answer compared to what you may be looking for.

I don't really trust wikipedia because anybody can put information on it and sometimes the information can be wrong @Peter15

I like both Wikianswers and Yahoo Answers. They both help a long, especially on homework. A lot of times someone else has already asked the same homework question and got a correct answer. I also think most answers are true because people don't usually answer the question unless they know their answer is correct.

@Chris Z - I think you've nailed the difference between WikiAnswers and Wikipedia for me. Thanks.

WikiAnswers seems to be specific answers to specific questions vs. Wikipedia is more general information about an entire topic.

WikiAnswers. I have used, it is helpful and even though some people think that it is a rebel to Wikipedia it is not. they are just similar to each other and one just wants to take all of the credibility.

I have used this site and i have never asked it questions but it is not my first choice to look things up on because it might normally be right but anyone can edit the information and make things not be correct.
