TV Transition to Digital Feb 17
What do you know about the nation wide TV transition to digital on Feb. 17. Why is this happening? Who is affected? What do people need to do? What questions do you have and where can you go for answers?
The problem we are having is how to program the VCR. The converter boxes don't have any way to changing the channel on a timer. So you can only record whatever channel the converter is set to.
I've read that there are a couple of converters out now that allow this, but they aren't very good yet. Plus, everyone's already used their government coupons.
I think there will be a lot of people caught off guard very soon!
i think its stupid that they have to convert it because we all cant go and buy a converter box before feb 14 AND I think it is just stupid..... and Ms. Herron i would think that would stink
all i know about it is that we're all supposed to have those converter boxes. i think it's a huge load of bs because of what tierney said.
as for affecting people, it'll affect everyone who has a tv and watches it. i mean, if you want anything to watch youre gonna have to do this box thing. as for affecting me? i have the digital boxes on one tv already cause my dad got a flat screen for christmas so whatever. lol, i still think it's stupid that everyone's gotta get one.
I just hope that people still don't know what's coming and complain on Feb. 17. That would be insane that they were unaware, but I still expect a number of people to act clueless on that day. Most people that watch TV already either have cable or a dish, so it won't matter to them, and the others who don't will just need to roll with the punches.
I don't understand why they would do this, make everyone use to the converter boxes. Why can't they just leave evrything alone. It's anoying how they are always changing stuff to make people pay more money.
The reason for the conversion is that it will free up all those analog signals in the air. They can now be used for emergency responders. This is a ramification from the 9/11 attacks when there was total confusion and different groups like firefighters, police, ambulances didn't have enough frequencies to talk on.
Also it will give more bandwidth to things like expanded broadband wireless. For more info.
I didn't know that this was all for the emergency signals, i mean, that's good i suppose, so we don't have anything else like 9/11 happen because that was horrible, but still this whole "everyone needs to buy the boxes" might not work they plan on having it work.
Before i thought this TV transition to Digital was dumb and pointless but now I understand why they would do so. The problem is though some people wont know about this switch until there tv goes black and many people will become very angery. Plus some of these converter boxes don't work very well and some may feel like if it isnt broke don't fix it.
I personally already have cable and the whole rest of the set up so FEB 17 will just be a normal day to me. I could definaltely see people being clueless that morning trying to watch tv and wondering why its not working...
I know that all of the tv's that arent digital are going to be worthless unless you get a converter box. I know that when my family had questions we went to best buy and that was a very helpful place.
I agree that this is probably for a good cause, but I think that people will be caught off guard because Feb 17 is quickly approaching, and if everyone tries to buy a converter box at once, stores are going to be sold out.

This doesn't affect me much because I have an HD tv and DirectTv. These converters do look like a pain to get though.
