How Much Info is too much Info

Read the first couple of paragraphs about this incident involving possible hacking of a voting machine in 2003. It seems legit, because a google search showed many other articles, including one by Princeton University.

Then listen to this guy tell you exactly how to hack this particular kind of voting machine. It's a bit of a spoof. There's actually not quite enough information to actually rig an election. You would still need to know the file format the program is expecting.

But here is my question. Should this be legal? Should it be legal to have a web site that tells you how to hack something as important as a Presidential election? Or how to make dangerous things or how to mug a pedestrian or how to do other "bad" things. And who decides what is "bad".

Finally, include a hyperlink in your post to a "good" site. A site you think provides "good" information. Maybe something you use from time to time. To get a hyperlink, select the text, then click on the icon with a fence link and type the URL.

This type of thing should be 100% legal, it's protected by the first amendmant. If this was really expected to be used to rig an election it would have had to be kept a secret. Why? Because everyone can see it, and that includes the people trying to stop it. The government now knows they need to protect their code. Same with the anarchy cookbook. Now work can be done on preventing damage from the most accessable explosives. Getting the knowledge out there is the first step to stopping it. Banning information is the last thing that should be done.

I think it looks a little too easy to hack into the voting machines. There are a little too many sites that tell you how to do it, like this one for example:
This tries to motivate you in my opinion

I think that the publishing the fact that it can be done is ok but, going the extra step to demonstrate is taking it too far. It is practically asking someone to actually alter an election. It could have happened due to the rate at which our government operates we may be using the same un-secure machines two to three years from now. Demonstrating how to do so went a little to far but there are so many illegal things you can find out how to do like here Anarchy Cookbook
Here you can find information on a large number of illegal and improper things.

I believe that it should be illegeal for people to post things on the web on how to hack or make weapons. Many people who committ crimes with weapons or bombs just go to the internet to find blueprints for one. So if these websites were not on the web the world would be a safer place. Some websites like wikipedia can provide that type of information but people oversee what is being put on line. So it is safe than some research sites.

I feel like this is totally illegal. I know if a student or something posted an inappropriate thing like that, we would most likely be expelled. It should apply for everyone else. Something as important as a Presidential election should be protected. They should be taken off of the internet. No wonder there's so much crime in our society today.
This is just a site that gives reliable information

I think hacking is totally unacceptable. This should definitely be illegal, even though people do it anyways. One example of hacking could be at WikiPedia. I went to that website before for help, and there were many things changed to inappropriate things. Overall, I think it should be illegal.

this type of thing should be more than 110% illegal. It should not bear info on how to hacka voter thingy its not fair to all the other people who wanna vote and get who they want for president or watever its their. Places like Wikipedia show a reasonable amount of info and without showing anything illegal. im pretty sure there is nothing about hacking a voter machine on wikipedia and it helps you learn imoprtant stuff.

I think this should be legal, there are many websites that show how to do things that illegal. there is really no way to stop these things and if they were illegal it would be really hard to stop it. here is a website that i like to use to find out about things and how to perform them http://www.ehow.com/

I think that we shouldnt have control for whats posted on the internet. I think what that guy is saying is probably true.
